Basic Life Processes

  • 6 processes of the human body
  • A) Metabolism– the sum of all chemical processes
  • Catabolism– breakdown of complex chemical substances
  • Anabolism- build up of complex chemical substances
  • B) Responsiveness- detect and respond to changes
  • C) Movement- any movement from internal to external
  • D) Growth- an increase in body size resulting from an increase in size of existing cells or number of existing cells.
  • E) Differentiation- development of a cell from unspecialised to specialised eg stem cells or egg to baby
  • F) Reproduction- Formation of new cells for repair or a whole human

When any of these fails to work there is cell loss and death
